Overview

Aiming to further cement Holyoke’s status in sports history, a new $110 million Olympic-style sports complex is being developed, led by entrepreneur Cesar Ruiz and designed by the Sports Facilities Advisory (SFA). This complex is poised to transform Holyoke into a premier sports destination. The facilities planned include 16 volleyball and basketball courts, a reimagined International Volleyball Hall of Fame, an arcade, a bowling alley, rock climbing facilities, and a hotel.

Volleyball’s Roots in Holyoke

Volleyball was invented in Holyoke in 1895 by William G. Morgan at the local YMCA. The sport quickly gained popularity, and today, Holyoke proudly celebrates this heritage through the International Volleyball Hall of Fame.
